DCD, Sri Lanka


Department of Cooperative Development (DCD) was established in 1988 under the 13th amendment to the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

Department of Cooperative Development is a coordinator between the government and the cooperation in propagation of cooperative business and conduction of cooperative societies along cooperative policies. It supports and strengthen cooperative societies by managing and developing and supervising them of lapsed loans so they can recover. It also coordinating between institutes and external parties regardless cooperative service, and providing legal guidance to cooperative societies whenever necessary.

NEDAC and Department of Cooperative Development together, we can cooperate on sustainable development of the cooperative societies in Asia and the Pacific through trainings, technical assistance, and other kind of support. We can develop a strong path and plan for cooperative movement and to construct the good governance in cooperative societies to develop cooperative business as a people’s entrepreneurship.
