The first meeting of NEDAC Committee on “Fisheries Cooperatives”
Possible activities to strengthen the fishery sector and cooperatives were discussed.
The first meeting of NEDAC committee “Fisheries Cooperatives” chaired by Dr. K.R. Salin, Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand was held via Zoom Conference Platformon 30 April 2022 at 3.30 PM (India Time). Several NEDAC members were present. The meeting was held to discuss the committee’s upcoming activities and events.
Dr. C. Suvarna, Chief Executive, National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad, India was the invited keynote speaker. She made a presentation titled the “Fisheries sector and cooperative in India” and demonstrated the structure of fishery cooperatives as well as how it was formed and managed its activities. During the presentation, the Government’s measures and funding programs were also demonstrated.
During the Q&A and discussion sessions, the participants and keynote speaker interacted enthusiastically. Many issues were highlighted, including the state-level fishery cooperatives, the PMMSY program, and the gender imbalance in the industry, and topics for the committee’s activities were suggested.
Dr. K.R. Salin, Honorary Director of NEDAC, moderated the meeting, and Ms. Rasita Srkerdkruen, Program Coordinator, NEDAC, proposed a Vote of Thanks.
