NEDAC and Bhutan’s DAMC Strengthen Regional Cooperation for Agricultural and Cooperative Development

In a significant step toward advancing agricultural development in the Asia-Pacific region, the Network for the Development of Agricultural Cooperatives in Asia and the Pacific (NEDAC) held a constructive bilateral meeting with Bhutan’s Department of Agricultural Marketing and Cooperatives (DAMC). The virtual engagement aimed to reinforce ties between the two organizations and explore collaborative opportunities to enhance agricultural practices and strengthen cooperative networks across the region.
The meeting was spearheaded by Col. Himanshu, Director of NEDAC, along with Mr. Virgilio Lazaga, Vice Chairman of NEDAC, and Mr. Jyoti Saroop, Executive Committee Member Representing DAMC were key officials including Mr. Tashi Dorji, Director; Ms. Tshering Wangmo, Chief Marketing Officer, Cooperative Development Division; Mr. Sangay Thinley, Chief Marketing Officer, Market Information and Research Division; and Mr. Dorji Rinchen, Head of the Enterprise Development and Coordination Unit.
Discussions focused on identifying areas of mutual interest, including cooperative enterprise development, agricultural value chains, and capacity building initiatives. NEDAC and DAMC emphasized the growing importance of regional cooperation in navigating modern agricultural challenges such as climate change, market access, and rural livelihoods.
Bhutan’s Commitment to Cooperative Growth
DAMC officials expressed strong interest in aligning with NEDAC’s ongoing regional initiatives. Highlighting the importance of knowledge exchange and institutional strengthening, they noted that Bhutan’s cooperative movement stands to benefit significantly from NEDAC’s network and resources.
“We see great potential in collaborating with NEDAC, especially in enhancing the capabilities of our cooperative sector through shared learning and technical support,” said DAMC official during the meeting.
